Drywall Texture: Orange Peel, Knockdown & Smooth
New texture, retexturing and patch matching on walls and ceilings.

Texture hides small imperfections and gives walls a finished look. We spray and hand-apply orange peel, knockdown, skip trowel and smooth finishes on new drywall, and we retexture or remove texture on existing walls and ceilings.
Textures we apply
- Orange peel: a fine spray texture, the most common finish in SoCal homes.
- Knockdown: splatter flattened with a knife, good at hiding wavy walls.
- Skip trowel: a hand-applied, Spanish-style look.
- Smooth: no texture, finished to Level 4 or Level 5.
Retexturing and matching
Changing the look of a room, or blending a repair into an old wall? We adjust the mix, tip size and pressure to match what's there, and test on a board before spraying your wall.
Texture removal
Want smooth walls? We skim over existing texture to a flat finish. For popcorn ceilings, see our popcorn ceiling removal page.
Common questions
Which texture hides the most?
Knockdown hides wavy framing and patches best. Orange peel is subtler; smooth hides the least and needs Level 5 under strong light.
Can you match the texture from the 1970s?
Usually, yes. We test the match on a sample board first.
